Get to Your Dream Faster This Year: Add Value to Your Life
HOW TO ADD MORE VALUE TO YOUR LIFE
I must admit that I struggled with
the title of this post for a while. I did not just know how exactly to title it
to get the message across to you the way I desire.
Every day of our lives, we desire
to have more of everything except ill and negatives that don’t favour us. I
have never met anyone yet who doesn’t want a positive addition in their lives.
Yet, this never happens by accident. Nothing really happens by accident.
Both happiness and sadness, joy
and sorrow, wealth and poverty are all products of actions – people’s actions.
Some conscious, others not. The things we have or don’t have today, are
products of what we or others have done or didn’t do. In other words, the way
you are responsible for whatever becomes of you may be matched with the way
others are responsible as well. What you are going through right now may not be
because of what you did wrong or right, it may just be a result of other
people’s errors.
For example, parents that won’t
work and give their children a good life, always make the fulfillment of dreams
elusive for those children. People who refuse to work always put a burden on
the social security system of a country which is funded with other people’s
money. For short, there is a part that other people play in what becomes of us.
In all though, it is safer to not put so much fault on other people, because we
owe the greater duty to ourselves and must learn to take responsibility for our
lives.
The little things we do every
other day add up to make our lives count for more or less. Those little things
that we do or ignore make the big difference in our lives. Every minute, every
passing hour counts. What value can you allude to every passing hour of your
life? In a day, do you take stock of what you have done? And if you do, do you
quantify what you did to know whether there was positive addition to your life
or not?
Life is measured in time. If time is wasted, life is wasted.
How to add value to your life today
Consciously Plan and Work to Be Better
I believe it starts with the way
you handle your early mornings and late nights. If every early morning is spent
drafting out what needs to, and must be done in the day, and late nights are
used to evaluate the successes or shortcomings recorded, just that way, you can
achieve more, and like someone said, you will belong in the first 10% of
achievers in life.
The daily activities are
breakdowns. They are the little things that add up to make the big thing that
is anticipated. They are ways you eat the elephant. They are the plans that
help to achieve the ultimate goals that have been set. And it has to be done
consciously.
Set goals for yourself that you
are committed to working towards. Well-defined goals in your spiritual, family,
work, finance, etc., lives, and ensure these goals are well-captured in your
activities every day such that, as you work your activities each day, you are
working towards your ultimate goals.
You must aim somewhere. Remember, if you are going nowhere, you
will get there.
Pay the Right Sacrifice
There is a price to pay for every prize you want to attain.
The price you will pay will be a
reflection of the height you are aiming. Do you need to go back to school,
attend some trainings or workshops, read a book, do you need to go see someone,
set some time out to really think, increase your working hours, take up
additional jobs, learn something someway, whatever that thing is that you need
to do, that holds the key to where you are going in life, you must take the
courage to take the step now. You owe yourself self-encouragement when no one
is there to encourage you. It is your cross, you gotta bear it.
It is a process that must be
completed, not started and stopped half-way. Imagine a goldsmith who started
the refining process but got tired along the way and abandoned the process. You
know as well as I do that he will get everything but the gold.
Expand Your Knowledge Base
It is easier to do silly things,
have fun than make meaningful use of one’s time. Believe me, it is much easier
to abandon work and go have a chat or watch movie. It usually takes less
energy.
No focused person abandons his
work for pleasure, except to take a break for a while. No one does. No one
except the one who unconsciously means to add no value to himself or herself.
It is more pleasurable to watch a
movie than to read a book, it is far easier to chat meaninglessly than to attend
a seminar or workshop or learn with someone. And except you consciously choose
to, you might find that it is very difficult to ignore that pleasure.
A lot of discipline is required if
you will be able to pick a book and complete reading it. You need to be
disciplined to go meet someone and schedule meeting with them so they can
mentor you. You need discipline to put your mind to a process and stop at
nothing until your desired results begin to show forth. This discipline you
must cultivate to add value to your life.
When you read a book, get mentored
by someone, etc., you rub minds with them and get results through them that
would otherwise have taken you a long time in far shorter time. Cultivate the
habit. It is nobody’s talent. Everyone doing it determined to, and cultivated
the habit at one point in time or the other in their lives. You must do same.
Change or Expand Your Circle of Influence
The results you are getting today
is not far to fetch from the result that those around you are getting. Your
circle includes your friends, associates, etc., those whose opinion mean something
to you.
If you want better than you are
making at the moment, you need to examine first the association that you keep.
If they comprise people that are going in the same direction with you but are
not there yet, but are full of the potential, drive, vision, etc., you know
there is a future with them, it is just a matter of time. Nothing is wrong
though if you expand your own circle to include those who’ve been there, so
they can help hasten your movement.
If your circle however consists of
those among whom you are champion, you need to watch it. If those in your
association are not in any way better than you, or making any meaningful upward
movement, my friend, it is time to change circle.
I know it is not as easy as I am
making it appear, but a man has got to do what a man has got to do. Change your
circle. Come to yourself, go and meet
those you need, those who need you will come to you. You need to move.
Until you move, nothing will move. Remember the law of motion: everything
remains in a particular state until an external force is applied. You need to
generate that force. You need to move.
If you move, you will find a lot
of other people who are moving like you, wanting more and making more. With
them, you can start a new circle and add more value.
See you.
